Ein Machtkampf um Belgiens Rolle bei der Kontrolle europäischer Institutionen bahnt sich an, während das Parlament Korruptionsermittlungen zunehmend ausbremst.

Entscheidend wird nun sein, ob das Paket noch rechtzeitig – bis Mitte Dezember – verabschiedet werden kann, bevor die Regeln Ende des Jahres in Kraft treten.

Der Gesetzesentwurf soll die Interessen der Europäischen Union vor der Instrumentalisierung von Energieexporten durch die Russische Föderation schützen.

The Council today approved conclusions on COP30, reinforcing the EU's commitment to keeping 1.5°C within reach, scaling up climate finance and driving global energy transition and adaptation efforts.

The Council today approved conclusions on the European water resilience strategy, reinforcing the EU’s commitment to safeguarding water resources, boosting resilience and addressing climate challenges.

On 22 October, the President of the European Council, António Costa will meet the President of the Committee of the Regions Kata Tüttő and Economic and Social Committee’s outgoing President Oliver Röpke and incoming President Séamus Boland. The meeting will focus on how to address the housing crisis across the EU. It takes place ahead of the Tripartite Social Summit and the European Council discussion on housing.

On Tuesday, Follow the Money won the 2025 Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism for exposing the hidden financial networks enabling Russia’s sanction-evading oil trade.

Der Chips Act gilt weithin als gescheitert, die ehrgeizigen Ziele zur Stärkung der Halbleiterproduktion in der EU zu erreichen. Alle EU-Mitgliedstaaten hatten zuletzt eine grundlegende Neubewertung des Gesetzes gefordert.

Mit dieser Entscheidung fordert das Parlament die Kommission auf, den Vorschlag fallen zu lassen. Zwar hat die EU-Kommission noch keine endgültige Position bezogen, doch eine Rücknahme gilt als wahrscheinlich.
