The Committees SEDE/CONT/TRAN will hold jointly a presentation of the ECA special report on Military moibility by its Rapporteur Marek Opiola, on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 from 14:30 - 16:00 in Brussels (ANTALL 4Q1).

On 19 March, SEDE Members will exchange with Commissioner Henna Virkkunen, in charge of Tech Sovereignty, Security and Democracy. They will also discuss with Sauli Niinistö about his recent report on strengthening Europe’s civil and military preparedness and readiness. On 20 March, the SEDE Committee – in association with the Delegation for relations with the NATO PA – will welcome the NATO Deptuy Secretary General, Radmila Shekerinska, to discuss deterrence and defence, defence spending and

defence industry. Ukraine's security and defence needs remain high on the agenda - in camera - with notably a joint meeting with the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on National Security, Defence and Intelligence and discussions about EU-Ukraine joint security commitments.

The 6-Member SEDE delegation to the United Kingdom mission organised in close co-operation with AFET and INTA, was a very timely visit following the announcement by the President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom to enhance strategic cooperation after their leaders’ meeting of 2 October 2024. The UK in particular has set out its ambition for an “enhanced EU-UK defence cooperation,” in light of Russia’s continuing war of aggression in Ukraine.

The eight-member delegation from the Subcommittee on Security and Defence (SEDE) was in Kyiv on 25 and 26 October 2024. This mission was the first in the new parliamentary term and allowed the Members to express a strong message of solidarity and unwavering support to Ukraine and its citizens in the face of Russia’s unjust and illegal war of aggression.
