After more than a month of protests Bulgaria's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov made a televised speech on Friday in which he said his government would be willing to resign if the parliament decides to elect a grand national assembly to consider and adopt a new constitution. Yesterday his Gerb party presented a draft constitution that among other things provides for judicial reforms. Can this proposal calm the situation?

More and more people have joined the opposition's protests since the election in Belarus a week ago, with around 100,000 demonstrators gathering in Minsk alone on Saturday. Employees at many key state companies have also gone on strike, and several state television journalists have publicly announced their support for the opposition.
