In Poland, the Porozumenie party has ended its national-conservative government coalition with the PiS. The move came after Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki dismissed deputy prime minister and minister of development Jaroslaw Gowin, who is also the leader of Porozumenie, in a row over changes to the broadcasting law that targets the private channel TVN, as well as other issues. The Polish parliament is due to vote on the amendments today.

After 21 years with FC Barcelona, Lionel Messi will now play for Paris Saint-Germain. Since Barça is heavily in debt, the Financial Fair Play rules that apply in the Spanish league apparently made Messi's staying with the team impossible, even if his salary had been cut by 50 percent. In Paris, Messi will now reportedly be paid 40 million euros net per year, plus bonuses. Commentators say this transfer has nothing to do with fair play.

The UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change presented its latest report on Monday. According to the findings, the current global warming is undoubtedly due to human activities and is progressing even faster than many had feared. The report concludes that some consequences, including higher temperatures, droughts and a rise in sea levels are irreversible even if emissions are drastically cut. But humankind still has the power to prevent the worst, the report stresses.
