On 18 March 2014 Vladimir Putin signed the agreement on Crimea becoming part of the Russian Federation - two days after a controversial referendum. To this day much of the international community still doesn't recognise the peninsula as part of Russia but as Ukrainian territory. Five years after the annexation commentators describe how it is now perceived in the two countries and among the members of the international community.

After the attacks on two mosques New Zealand wants to tighten gun laws as quickly as possible. A 28-year-old Australian shot at least 50 people in Christchurch on Friday while filming the killing spree with a bodycam and streaming it live on social media. Prior to the attack he posted a manifesto with far-right rhetoric online. Commentators look at the roots of right-wing terror.

Debate: Third Brexit vote in parliament in jeopardy

The Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow, has ruled out the possibility of a third vote on the Brexit agreement unless there are substantial changes to the proposed deal. May was still seeking a majority for the deal which has already been rejected twice by parliament. Is this the end for May?

Debate: What has Macron's grand debate achieved?

France's grand debate has come to an end. President Macron launched the forum in January in reaction to the yellow vest protests. The idea was to start a dialogue with the protesters and seek joint solutions. More than 8,000 discussion rounds were held in cities and villages across the country. Commentators take widely differing views of what the debate has accomplished.

Debate: A tennis star is born - glory for Romania?

18-year-old Bianca Andreescu beat the much more experienced German player Angelique Keber in the finals of the Indian Wells Masters tennis tournament on Monday. The world of tennis has a new star and Romanian media are trying to claim some of the glory since although Andreescu is a Canadian citizen, her parents are Romanian. Commentators are at odds about whether this is justified.
