The Czech Constitutional Court has dismissed appeals against a law introduced three years ago prohibiting members of the government from holding media and bidding for public contracts. To comply with the law Prime Minister Andrej Babiš had to put his companies into trusts. Now he has stated that he wlll withdraw from politics if his Ano movement loses the 2021 parliamentary elections.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man with a fortune of 130 billion dollars, has announced plans to invest 10 billion dollars in climate protection and "saving the planet" with his newly founded Bezos Earth Fund. The first funds are to be made available as early as this summer, Bezos said on Instagram. Media in Europe are largely sceptical about the plans.

The National Agency for Education in Sweden has declared a general ban on wearing headscarves at schools to be incompatible with religious freedom and freedom of expression and therefore unconstitutional. The decision renders a headscarf ban issued by the southern Swedish municipality of Skurup at the end of last year invalid. Sweden's commentators applaud the move.
